Yorkshire born and raised, I grew up in east Leeds, not far from the mesmerising vista at Temple Newsam. It was in these surroundings that as a little boy I developed a passion to write. I took every chance, writing anything imaginative and fanciful that danced onto my notepaper: usually stories and mock newspaper front pages (usually about Leeds United winning the Champions League).
I first moved away to read English Literature at St Catherine's College, Oxford University. I became Features Editor of The Oxford Student, a weekly 44-page paper with a distribution of 18,000 copies across the entire university. I was made a finalist in the prestigious GQ magazine Norman Mailer student writing contest. It was also at Oxford that I had the chance to travel to China, where I worked with a magazine based in Beijing -- one of my first experiences in a new location telling the stories of all kinds of people.
After I graduated in 2011 I began writing stories for newspapers and magazines all over the country and the world. My news features have been published in The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, The Guardian, Yorkshire Post, The Huffington Post, and more. Over the last year I have spent time working amid the volcanic sands of Iceland, the blazing heat of Greece, but I've come back to Leeds to work on something new which I hope will change the way we see ourselves in my hometown...
I have long had a particular passion for broadcasting: the power of a single compelling image is mesmeric. In truth it started a long time ago: when I was 12, I was a Press Packer on CBBC Newsround, interviewing Gordon Brown about money for schools at 11 Downing Street. Since returning home to Leeds I have become passionate about the opportunities for news and programming on local television, and I'm proud to be part of the team at MADE in Leeds TV, the city's new local television station coming soon.
And that's my life so far in four short paragraphs... If you want to get in touch about any story or project of mine, I'm always just an e-mail away!
